Vaastu Lession Four : Selection of an Auspicious Plot

General:

Vaastu brings about best results when planned right from the conception of an idea of having your own home.  Buying a plot and constructing one is a better option as it offers flexibility.  The plot of land selected for constructing home should be square or rectangular in shape; preferably facing east or north direction as the positive solar energy comes from these directions.

Geometrical Axis:

The geometrical axis of the plot should be aligned with earth's magnetic axis; one of the plot sides should parallel to the north south directions and other should be parallel to east-west directions. If the plot is not aligned in the north south direction, the land is poor for overall growth, peace and happiness. The shape, size, levels and angles of the plot should be examined. If it does not comply with the Vaastu principles the necessary additions and alterations should be done to the plot.

Slope of Plot:

The land should be raised towards the south and west sides and the gradient slope towards north and east for overall growth and prosperity.

Shape of plot:

1.      Ideally it should be a square.
2.      Rectangle is also good provided the breadth and length ratio be 1:2
3.      Triangle, round and all other odd shapes are not considered good.

Angles of the plot:

1.      If all angles are 90 degrees it is considered best - Square site: If the ratio of two adjacent sides of a site is 1:1 and every corner is a 90 degrees angle, it is called a square and is best for overall growth.

2.      Southwest angle should be 90 degrees Northwest and southeast angle should be close to 90 degrees or more.

3.      Northeast should be close to 90 degrees or less but should never exceed 90 degrees

If the ratio of width and depth of a site is within 1:1.5 and all corners are of 90 degrees, it is also good for growth. If the depth is more than twice the width, the site becomes weaker for growth. The symmetrical geometry of shape is good in general. The unsymmetrical shape is not always good.

The various shapes and their possible effects are as below :

1.      Square : Overall growth Rectangular :Overall growth
2.      Circular :Increases mental capabilities
3.      Hexagonal :Prosperity
4.      Unsymmetrical / Irregular Shapes : Oval Shape:Inauspicious
5.      Triangular:Loss due to fire,Govt. harassment, Penalty etc.
6.      Parallelogram: Financial losses, Quarrels in family.
7.      Star : Quarrel and litigations, Destruction of peace.

Location and direction of plot

East and north facing sites are preferred over west and south facing plots.

Plots having two or more roads

1.      It is good to have roads on all four sides of the plot - gives all round happiness to the native.
2.      It is good to have more than one road.
3.      North and east roads are the best.
4.      South and west roads are good for business people.
5.      South and east roads are good for women and women organizations.

Plot and levels

I : Levels inside the plot

1.      The ground levels should be high in the south and west.
2.      The ground levels in the north and east should be lowest in the plot.
3.      Levels in the southeast and northwest should be more or less equal, or higher in southeast
4.      North should be lower than south and east should be lower than west.

II : Levels outside the plot

1.      East and north levels of the adjoining plot or road should be low.
2.      Hillocks and mounds are preferred towards south and west.
3.      Ground level water bodies are preferred on north and east for good results.
4.      A high building towards south or west or southwest brings good prosperity.
5.      Ground level water body, depression and low level are considered bad towards southwest of the plot.

T-Junction and Veedhi Shoolas on Plot:

When a road juts into (a road ends at the point or splits into two) a site or a building, it is referred to as T-Junction location. T-Junction location is called Veedhi Shoola in Vaastuclassical works.

Adverse effects for buildings located in accordance with the cardinal direction i.e. East, North, West and South are easier to handle.

1.      When the T-junction falls at the Northeast sector of a building, either on the east or north, they are auspicious. Heavens blessings are showered in plenty on such properties.

2.      When the T-junction falls at the southwest sector, either on the south or on the west, they are outright and extremely bad.

3.      In case the T-junction falls on the southeast sector, the one touching on the south is good while the one on the east is bad.

4.      In case the T-junction falls on the northwest sector, the one touching the west section is good while the one touching the north section is bad.

For a building standing in the non-cardinal direction i.e. northeast, northwest, southeast and southwest, the identification of the defect (dosha) need be accurate and judicious by fixing the cardinal direction exactly through the aid of a magnetic compass, and even fixing the deviation angles.

Likewise piercing the door is another defect identified as dwara vedha due to placement of an object like tree, electric or telephone pole or even depression such as pit, pool of water, etc.  However, if the tall object is located at a distance more than twice the height of the object, the defect (dosha) is minimal.

It will be appropriate if no fixed object obstructs the sight of the main door of the building when seen from the main gate of the building, especially when it is right opposite the main outer/boundary gate.

Sandwiched Plot

Sandwiched plot located in between two larger sized plots or buildings are to be avoided.  Also a plot having a large plot or a building on either the east or north are not favourable as well.

Corner Plot

A northeast corner plot is best, the rest are better avoided, or remedies applied,
subject to applicability.

Selection of a City or a Colony:

1.      Select an area of good reputation as to security and society or resident association.
2.      Select a well planned and facilitated area.
3.      Select an unpolluted area.
4.      Select an area with ample water source.
5.      Select a residential plot adequately away from road or other hustle and bustle.
6.      Ensure a friendly neighbourhood.
